Care Guide: Cellulosic Fabrics
At Nique, we design with a focus on responsible materials that balance innovation and nature. Our cellulosic fabrics, derived from plants like bamboo, eucalyptus and cotton linter — are chosen for their refined drape, natural lustre and biodegradability.
We choose them because they are biodegradable and an eco-conscious alternative to polyester. When cared for correctly, they maintain their shape, lustre and feel, extending the life of your garments and reducing the need for replacement — a small act of sustainability in itself.

WHAT IS A CLOSED LOOP PROCESS
In a closed loop system, the solvents and water used to convert cellulose into fibre are captured, purified, and reused. This reduces waste, conserves water, and minimises environmental impact.
It’s a process that ensures both performance and sustainability — a balance at the heart of Nique’s design ethos.
FABRICS WE USE
Bamboo Viscose and Bamboo Cotton Blends
Made from fast-growing bamboo and used in our signature Aalto Tees and Lucia Tees. These fibres are known for their smooth touch and easy drape, becoming softer with every wear when washed gently in cold water.
Lenzing™ Tencel™ (Lyocell)
Made from sustainably farmed eucalyptus trees using a certified closed loop process. Found in key styles such as the Lotus Shirt, Escape Dress, Glider Slip Dress and Sculpture Pant for their elegant drape and versatility. TENCEL™ maintains its smooth sheen and refined shape when air-dried and lightly steamed.
Cupro
Created from cotton linter — the tiny fibres too small to spin — Cupro transforms this by-product into a luxurious, silk-like fabric. Its soft, cool hand and fluid movement make it ideal for shirting and elevated separates. To preserve its smooth feel and lustre, avoid high heat and always dry in the shade.
Viscose (from Certified Cellulose)
Sourced from responsibly managed wood pulp including beech and pine, this fibre provides lightness, flow and durability across select Nique collections. Wash in cool water to maintain its drape and longevity.
GARMENT CARE
Caring properly for cellulosic fabrics helps maintain their natural qualities — the drape, the touch, and the fit you loved from day one. With mindful care, your Nique pieces will continue to look and feel their best, wear after wear.
-
Air before washing
If not marked or dirty, hang in a sheltered, well-ventilated space for 1–2 days. Avoid direct sunlight. -
Spot clean first
Treat marks with a mild, earth-friendly detergent and a damp cloth. -
Cold, gentle wash
Hand wash or select a cool, gentle machine cycle with like colours. Always use cold water. -
Dry naturally
Do not tumble dry. Line dry in the shade to preserve shape and finish. -
Reshape with steam or low heat
If slight shrinkage occurs, use steam to relax fibres back to size or press softly with a low-temperature iron. -
Eco dry clean (optional)
For structured pieces, take to a trusted, eco-conscious dry cleaner familiar with natural and regenerated fibres.
WHY CARE MATTERS
Every wear leaves an imprint. Gentle, mindful care not only protects the fabric’s structure but extends its lifespan — keeping it out of landfill and in your wardrobe for years to come.
When you treat your cellulosic garments with care, you preserve their movement, shape and integrity — a reflection of Nique’s belief that true sustainability lies in longevity.
