Earth Day 2023
This April 22, 2023, is the 52nd Annual Earth Day with a mission to diversify, educate and activate the environmental movement worldwide. The world’s largest environmental movement works with over 150,000 partners in over 192 countries worldwide and this year Nique is celebrating the movement.
As a fashion brand, Nique recognises the contradiction between the current fashion industry, including some of our own practices, and the concept of sustainability. Therefore, we are committed to continuing our sustainability journey to create innovative fashion that isn’t wasteful, and doesn’t negatively impact people or our planet.
Here are some of the ways that we at Nique are investing in our planet this Earth Day and every day.
Nique Packaging Project
We have also asked all suppliers to sew spare buttons and spools of thread onto garment care labels instead of attaching them on in a little plastic bag.
Responsible Shopping Bags
In April 2023 we launched our responsible shopping bags in-store. These are our most environmentally friendly shopping bags yet. The paper bags are made from 50% post-consumer waste products, were dyed with water-based inks and use water-soluble glues to hold the recyclable paper handles in place. These bags are 100% recyclable!
reNique reNew Circularity Program
Nique’s reNique reNew program is a circular initiative in which Nique is taking responsibility for our garments in the hope that they don’t contribute to the 501 million kilos of clothing that end up in landfill in Australia each year. Faulty, preloved, and dead stock garments are inspected by our team of experts who decide how to give them a new life. These items enter our reNique reNew program and are sent to our creative collaborators to mend, up-cycle, over-dye, and be given another chance. These garments are then sold in-store for at least 20% off the original price.
As part of Melbourne Fashion Week we created a bespoke reNique reNew outfit for the festival's ambassador Jamie Azzopardi.
